About Shawnee Randolph, RYT 200:

Education, Training and Experience

Shawnee Randolph is a native of Kelso, WA and a Kelso High grad (class of 2002). In 2008, she graduated Cum Laude from Corban University in Salem, OR with a Bachelor’s of English: Journalism. Not long after college, in 2011, she decided to pursue and complete a 200 hour yoga teacher training from Heartsong Yoga in Beaverton, OR.

After having her first child, she began teaching in Salem in July 2012. Since beginning her yoga teaching journey she has taught in four different yoga studios and a large fitness center. As she approaches her three year teaching anniversary ( July 2015), she has logged over 850 hours of teaching. Additionally Shawnee has written and had published over 50 health, wellness and fitness articles.

Along with her 200 hour teacher training, she has also completed 32 hours of training and received a certificate of completion in Yoga as Therapy. As of July 2015 she will have completed 25 hours of training and be a Yoga for All certified teacher.

Teaching Style:

Shawnee’s yoga classes are alignment based, body-positive, and light on philosophy. It’s her desire to teach in a way that is inclusive of any body type, ability or background. She teaches a slow, Hatha-flow style class, and is big on modifying the pose (with props or by other means) to meet each student’s individual needs. She has also taught restorative, gentle, chair, prenatal, mommy and me, kids, beginning and fundamental style classes.

As class sizes grow at Summit Studios, she would like to include a gentle/beginning class, as well as a class for round bodies. Her goal is to eventually have at least one class each week that meets the needs of most students. She believes Westernized Yoga has become too centralized around physical fitness and physique.

Fun Facts:

Aside from yoga, Shawnee is a stay at home, work at home wife and mom. She enjoys crafting, power tools, walking, biking, cooking, cheese, and coffee. She is also an avid connoisseur of movies, and loves to read (when she has time). She is an emerging geek, and Harry Potter is her favorite. She has taught a Star Wars themed class, and consider yourself warned, Harry Potter yoga is coming to a studio near you.
